Wood grain soap - Soap Challenge Club (October 2016 entry)

Hi, everyone,

This month challenge in Soap Challenge Club hosted by Amy Warden is to make a wood grain soap))
As my daughter teeth saga still continues, again I made only one soap) that pretends to look like wood grain))

Unfortunately I have no pictures of the process this time, my camera was broken for some time, so only the result is here)

I would like to participate in all-natural category this month as this is a challenge for me, to find natural colorant at my house)
For my Thuja Wood Soap I used coconut oil (40%), sunflower oil (20%), avocado oil (15%), cocoa butter and shea butter (10% each) and 5 % of virgin olive oil as I wanted my soap not to harden fast. As a colorant I used 99% Lindt chocolate, for scenting thuja and sweet orange essential oils.

As for technique, I used Tiger Stripe technique for doing it. I poured only from one side of the mold, when I wanted that special look of wood, I just stopped pouring in the middle of the side changing colors and reducing the length of my pour till it was just a drop at a corner.

For that special look I rimmed every piece as I remembered how the soap looks like inside when I was making my rimmed soaps.. and it really looked not so straight and more wood like)))

I made some rimmed soap also as I saw some several rimmed soaps with non-full rim and wanted to try to make some too.

I wish good luck to everyone this month!

Nasta

UPD: Thank you all for my wood soap's 3-rd place!! I am happy!!!

  16. H Anastasia! I love the Thuja Theme you used! I made a scent with Juniper Berry & Lime once that I adored, yours may smell similar? It sounds amazing. I love the colors you achieve with the Chocolate. Very much like Cedar/Thuja/Juniper colors, One of my favorite woods. Great idea! I will have to try the side pour for this sometime ~ Thanks for sharing~ :)

  17. Wow, this is so realistic. It even looks a little bit rough on the surface of the soap, just like wood. I wish I could watch you make it. I want to make some exactly like it!! May I suggest a Youtube tutorial? Bet you'd get a lot of views on this one. Very beautiful work.
