Rimmed Soap - Soap Challenge Club March 2016

Hello, friends,

This is my third Soap Challenge Club and my first time
-        Doing rimmed round and square soap, spin swirl, helix swirl, spider web swirl, modified Taiwan swirl and rebatching
-          Using shredded loofah and pearl powder
-          Struggling with ricing))))

I suppose for most of us it was a real challenge this month as rimmed soap is indeed an advanced technique. And I suppose most of us were very happy to be taught by brilliant teacher and soapmaker Tatsiana Serko (my interview with Tatsiana is here) from Creative Soap by Steso.. But I suppose that we were more happy that Tatsiana was not participating this month and we all normal mortals got a chance to win))))) Tanja, it’s a joke))) You know me)))

So this month I wanted to try both techniques of rim doing: from a batch and one layer. All attempts (I made 5) from the batch were successful and only 6-th from one layer was ok.

Cutter: I and my almost husband made in December modified cutter using tutorial Tatsiana had at her blog. My cutter is wider and longer.. and not that beautiful but I’m very pleased with it. Thank you Tanja.

Recipe: I used different recipes with the same rule – 40% liquid oil, 60% butters.
I used a shoe box as a slab mold and Pringles tubes as round mold both lined with baking paper.

First attempt. Spin Swirl.
I made it unscented as it was recommended… My castor oil was really stinky… so I made only 2 pieces of soap.

Second attempt. Spider web swirl.
Hoooo… I wanted to have patchouli scented soap.. so I ended in a heavy trace with ricing… Center of that soap without ricing, as it would not occur when mixing all the time.

Third attempt. Modified Taiwan Swirl.
Very nice one. With loofah. Lots of pictures. Enjoy.

Overheated as all my soaps (may be because of the shoe box...)

Slicing

Slicing from both sides

Making

Forth attempt. Helix Swirl.
Unfortunately again blue turns into green…

The best part was cutting))) I was horrified))) double rimmed soap))))) some soda ash left unfortunately

Fifth attempt. Taiwan Swirl.
Heavy trace, ricing…
Using pearl powder for the center soap.

The only one successful attempt to make rim from one layer (6-th one) and my entry (finally))))))

All the joins.

Some rebatching

UPD: THANK YOU ALL FOR GIVING OR NOT GIVING YOUR VOICE.
I AM REALLY HAPPY

Damask Rim is also a winner of Bramble Berry's Facebook Photo of the Week. Thank you

  2. Thank you for sharing all your processes!! You have so many lovely soaps - I don't know how you managed to choose one, but I do love it! The simple pink and white pattern is so chic! This made me laugh out loud: "I suppose that we were more happy that Tatsiana was not participating this month and we all normal mortals got a chance to win" She's definitely a super talented soapmaker - and now teacher too! :)

    1. Jessaca, I used Damask Mat from Austrian producer Alphabet Moulds. I suppose some mats could be found on Amazon. I bought directly from them.

    1. Chichi, I "rebatch" only the rim, as could not make it round, I decided to use it in a square soap. Also, I made some "confetti" from brokem parts and put them into new soap for the center.

  12. Anastasia, your soaps are absolutely gorgeous, each and every one of them! Your entry, though is exquisite - just stunning! I laughed so hard at your comment about Tatsiana not participating this month because I thought the same thing numerous times as I made my soaps, lol! She is freakishly talented! I have to say though that I am glad you are in a different category this month. I would be very sad to have to be competing with you with the soaps you created! Look out Tatsiana! 😃

    1. Наталия, спасибо большое. Коврик от соседей из Австрии, компания Alphabet Moulds. Я покупала через их интернет-магазин еще к декабрю, но не успела) Знаю, что они есть на разных сайтах со штуками для тортов в Словакии..
