Sculpted Layers - Soap Challenge Club (June 2016 entry)

Hi, everyone,

This is my sixth soap challenge. It was the hardest one so far.

I had a difficult month again full of tooth ache (my daughter), other health problems (my dog) and no sleeping))) I did only one try making soap fulfilling the guidelines and one experimental soap.

First I saw Sculpted Layers technique at Auntie Clara’s blog in her Lace Soap tutorial and liked it very much and wanted to make it someday.

I don’t like soap made all with this technique (though they are wonderful) because they seem to me too unnatural. Unfortunately I also hate landscape soaps as much as embedded soaps)))) So it was hard for me to got some idea on geometric shapes for the soap..

I started with the experimental one as it was the first one I made. I had the idea of this soap in March for Rimmed soap challenge, but have no knowledge or experience of how to do it.  This month I made my idea come real as I knew all three techniques I need to know to make it: impression mat, rimmed soap and sculpted layers.

As was in a very very hurry I made it with lots of mistakes, but I liked the result though. I did not see all this techniques together before and I am indeed glad I managed to do it.

As for the soap to fulfill the guidelines of the challenge this month I had an idea of representing Czech Cubism in layered soap. This is how that style of art is looking:

And my hero by Pavek Janák (year 1911))))

 And my soap:

I did not want to use sodium lactate to make my soap and it resulted not very good. I tryed to use salt instead. but it does not help..

I devided soap into 3 part and made soap for 3 times, but only last one was sculpted)))) I did not manage to make my soap have the shape I wanted….. also we were moving to the town house  for some time so unmolding without oven was a little problem too)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

So my soap... Unfortunately not a Czech Cubism Soap but Czech "Cubism" Soap. Amy, I counted precisely three indeed SCULPTED layers in those 11 in these soap )))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
I hope it is enough to take part in a competition))))))))))))))))))))))))

Both of my soaps this month:

  1. I'm sorry the entry soap didn't turn out as planned - the round one is absolutely breathtaking! I congratulate you on entering with all you have going on! The inspiration is wonderful and I have no doubt you can make the perfect cubism soap with another try. The colors are really beautiful!! I've always loved brown with turquoise. :)

  5. Anastasia, I like your inspirations, and it really does show in your soaps! I like that you made those beautiful blue layers larger in the middle of your design ~ they really make it extra nice! I would love to know how your formed & sculpted your rimmed soap! Awesome! :)

    1. Thank you, Eva)))
As for forming of the layer for rimmed soap.. I maked it a little bit thicker than normaly would and as I have no good mold and make it in a shoe box that had another box inside to make it fit the impression mat, I could not use any form for sculpting... As a person must csulpt by diagnal... so I used a tablespoon (handle part).. that why it is so uneven and differs one from another)

  6. Oh my goodness, Anastasia! Not only is your entry soap gorgeous but you have taken rimmed soap to a whole new level!! I know your entry soap may not have given the results you wanted, but it is still true perfection. I think the slight variations of each layer make this so incredibly unique! It really is a work of art!
